Toyota to reissue limited Land Cruiser 70 in Japan

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the model

Toyota has recently announced that they will produce the original Land Cruiser 70 (LC70) for only one year in Japan. Set to celebrate its 30th anniversary, the LC70 will be available either as a 5-door van or a 4-door pickup.

The LC70 utilizes a ladder frame construction that gives its rigidity. It is capable of carrying a maximum payload of 600 kg. Externally, it still looks the same albeit the front, which receives modern features such as an updated grille and hood. Moreover, the headlight of the LC70 is incorporated with turn indicators. Completing the exterior design of the LC70 are a pair of 30th anniversary badges placed on both sides of the car.

Inside, the cabin maintains its clasic look, but receives modern amenities. The Japanese automaker says the instrument panel is horizontally-designed so that the driver can stay aware of the vehicle's position when driving off-road. Furthermore, the gearbox has triple cone synchros on the 2nd and 3rd gears, giving it durability and maneuverability.

Toyota has also updated the safety features of the LC70 by adding dual SRS airbags and ABS. Additional upgrades include an aluminum cylinder block and an Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS).

Under the hood is an updated 4.0-liter 1GR-FE V6 engine that is now equipped with Toyota’s VVT-i system that delivers 231 PS with 360 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The 5-door van is priced at JPY 3.6 million (around PHP 1.5 million) while the 4-door pickup is priced at JPY 3.5 million (around PHP 1.47 million).
