First established back in 1962, Toyota Motor Thailand is now regarded as one the largest manufacturers if not the largest in the region. Now, the Japanese automaker is celebrating a production milestone.
Since commencing operations began 56 years ago, Toyota has just announced that they have surpassed the 10 million vehicle production milestone in Thailand. These vehicles have then been exported to other markets around the globe, including some of the models we have in the Philippines.
To commemorate the 10 million production milestone, Toyota held an event called "The 10 Million of the great success in Thailand" held at the Toyota Samrong Plant, Samut Prakan Province. Present during the ceremony were Dr. Uttama Savanayana (Minister of Industry, Mr. Shiro Sadoshima (Ambassador of Japan to Thailand), Mr. Michinobu Sugata (President of Toyota Motor Thailand), and Mr. Tatsuro Takami (President of Toyota Daihatsu Engineering & Manufacturing, Co.).
“At Toyota, we realise that, without assistance and support from all of you, we would not have been able to come this far. I always thank all of our customers who have been trusting us all the way. I would also like to thank the Thai government for their attention and support towards the automobile industry. A million thanks to our dealers, suppliers, shareholders, and business partners for your continued cooperation with full of enthusiasm,” said Sugata-san.
Mr. Michinobu Sugata was previously assigned as president of Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, and has also led the company through several milestones.
Over the years, numerous vehicles that we have come to love have been produced from Toyota's Thailand plants. From the Corona RT40 and the KE20 Corollas up to the recent Hilux and Fortuner, most of these if not all have been produced in the three Thailand plants.
Toyota's manufacturing plants have also helped improve Thailand's automotive industry and economy. The Japanese automaker has almost 14,500 employees in Thailand and is capable of producing 750,000 units annually. Out of the 10 million vehicles produced, around 5.8 million have been sold to Thailand's market, while the 4.2 millions have been exported around the world.
