Last year, Toyota officially ended production of their retro-styled SUV, the FJ Cruiser after being in the market since 2006. Along with that, a report came along that Toyota was already planning a successor for the FJ called the FT-4X.

In October of 2016, a patent was filed by Toyota to the United States Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the “Toyota FT-4X” name, which stands for Future Toyota 4x4. Now, Toyota has released a lone teaser image to showcase the upcoming FT-4X in preparation for the upcoming New York Auto Show.

Based on the teaser photo, it shows the chunky 55-series Goodyear off-road tires along with a futuristic style 18-inch wheel. As seen on the gap between the fender arch and the wheel, it would be no surprise if the FT-4X was off-road capable, much like its predecessor. The concept also shows off its orange paint on both the center cap and the front bumper.

With regulations being more strict, the 4.0-liter V6 found on the outgoing FJ Cruiser will undoubtedly be replaced with something more eco-friendly. As for what will power the upcoming FT-4X, Toyota has yet to release details.

Until it makes its debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show, the lone image is the only detail that we of the FJ Cruiser's supposed successor.
