Toyota Motor Thailand has given the 3.0-liter variant of their Fortuner and Hilux an engine and transmission upgrade that gives a slight increase in its perfromance.
Thailand's 3.0-liter 1KD-FTV engine now churns out 171 PS at 3,600rpm and 360Nm of torque at 1,400-3,200rpm giving it a slight increase in power values as compared from the 163 PS and 343 Nm with the previous model. Aside from the engine upgrade, both diesel powered variants receive an upgrade to the automatic transmission, replacing the existing 4-speed to a 5-speed unit.
These changes could indicate that it might take some time before an all-new model of the Fortuner and Hilux will be introduced by Toyota.
Toyota Motor Philippines is set to roll out the VN-Turbo equipped 2.5-liter 2KD-FTV powered variants of the Fortuner and Hilux in the coming weeks. We tried to find out if the improved 3.0-liter variant is making its way to our market soon, but a reliable source revealed that it will not yet be available here due to our inferior diesel fuel quality. Our source did however mention that the upgraded engine might still make its way to our market. It is definite though that the 3.0-liter variants of the Fortuner and Hilux will be receiving upgrades in the form a new touchscreen entertainment system with navigation system similar to the photo below.
