On November 22, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will be holding the first-ever Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicle Drive Expo at the Greenbelt 5 Fashion Walk. Here, the automaker will be showcasing their hybrid models – the Prius, Prius C, and the Corolla Altis Hybrid. However, a hydrogen vehicle will also be making its debut in the form of the Mirai.
Yes, Toyota’s hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle will be on display as well at the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Drive Expo. This marks the first time the Mirai will be officially displayed in the Philippine market. To give both media and visitors a better idea of how the hydrogen-powered vehicle works, a cross section model will also be on display.
For now, TMP is keeping a tight lip on which Mirai model will be on display. It is uncertain whether it will be the new 2021 Mirai concept model, which we got to see at the recently concluded Tokyo Motor Show, or the current-generation Mirai which is still on sale in various markets around the world. We’re betting it will very likely be the latter as it is still in production today.
The current-generation Toyota Mirai uses hydrogen fuel cells in order to power an electric motor. It produces around 153 horsepower and has a maximum range of about 500 kilometers. Unlike an electric vehicle that can take more than 30 minutes to recharge, the Mirai can be refueled in just a few minutes, similar to a gasoline/diesel powered vehicle.
Since the Prius, Prius C, and Corolla Altis Hybrid are already available locally, it is possible TMP will gauge interest at the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Drive Expo on whether or not to bring in the Mirai.
