PH-spec Toyota GR Yaris to set you back PHP 2.65 million
It won't be long before Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) reveals its turbocharged hot hatch to the country. After confirming that the all-new GR Yaris is heading to the Philippines, TMP has now revealed the official price.
Initially, we reported that Toyota's new hot hatch will cost around PHP 2.7 – 2.9 million. But according to the automaker, it will cost less than that: Toyota will sell the GR Yaris for PHP 2,650,000.
While it sounds steep, the price actually makes the PH-spec GR Yaris one of the most affordable in Southeast Asia. Over in Thailand the hot hatch is priced at THB 2.69 million (about PHP 4.2M), while in Malaysia it retails for MYR 299,000 (around 3.5 million).
Toyota has yet to state when will the GR Yaris arrive in the country. But they did say that will release the list of dealers that will be accepting reservations on the official GR Yaris website soon. In a way, this will be similar to what they did to the GR Supra which can only be bought and serviced at select dealerships.
The exact specifications of the PH-bound GR Yaris have yet to be revealed. What we do know is that it will come with a 1.6-liter, turbocharged three-cylinder that cranks out 272 PS and 360 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Other key features that will be available on the hot hatch include 18-inch forged alloy wheels, bigger disc brakes, as well as Torsen limited-slip differentials for the front and rear axles.
This will be fun to drive head to head against the Honda Civic Type R even though the Toyota has less power. The all-wheel drive system will make it interesting though.
