Toyota Yaris GRMN, other Gazoo Racing models unleashed in Japan

Limited-run Yaris, 86, and Prius appearance pack available in Japanese GR dealers

Having announced last September that Gazoo Racing (GR) models will go on sale in select dealerships nationwide, Toyota have now confirmed that several GR versions of their vehicles are now being rolled out for public consumption. Chief among their offerings is the Yaris GRMN – dubbed the Vitz GRMN in their local market – a hot hatch based off Toyota’s humble hatchback.

Powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter inline four just like its European counterpart, the Yaris GRMN pushes 212 PS and 250 Nm of torque through a six-speed manual gearbox. Other changes include a set of Sachs dampers, underbody bracing, and a Torsen Limited-slip Differential to effectively put the power to the ground.

The aesthetic end of the Yaris GRMN is composed by a more aggressive front bumper with larger air dams, side skirts, a chiseled rear bumper and new tail lights. Footwork is taken care of thanks to 17-inch BBS alloys and four-piston anchors up front to bring the hot hatch to a stop.

The interior gets sporty GR seats, GR Badges on the cluster and a smaller steering wheel. The Yaris GRMN will be available for reservations starting April 9, and will be limited to 150 units only.

The next vehicle on the list is the 86 GR. Aside from all-new aero, it gets: 17-inch Rays alloy wheels, Sachs dampers, Recaro seats, six-piston front brake callipers (four-pots at the rear) and a Torsen limited slip differential all come standard on this new version of the 86.

With all those changes made, power still remains at 205 PS.

The last two vehicles are styling packages for both the Prius C and V. Tailoring to both the hybrid hatch and MPV versions of the Prius,  the set consists of new front and rear bumpers, sports seats, a GR-badged instrument cluster, a smaller steering wheel, specially-tuned suspension and extra bracing.

The chassis is also given extra spot welds for more rigidity.

No news on whether the Gazoo Racing lineup will extend outside of Japan, but for now it appears to be only exclusive to Toyota’s home market.
