The first phase of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway will be ready for use starting October 30, 2013. The 23.8-billion-peso project by Private Infrastructure Development Corp. has been issued a Toll Operation Permit by the Toll Regulatory Board last Friday, October 25.

The portion that will be opened to road users starting tomorrow spans 17 km, and will connect SCTEX, Tarlac City, Victoria, and Gerona. By the time TPLEX is fully functional, there will be more exits located in Tarlac (Paniqui exit, Moncada exit), Pangasinan (Urdanet City exit, Pozorrubio exit), and La Union (Rosario exit). TPLEX will be ready with patrol cars, emergency assistance vehicles, speed sensors, and other motorist safety features.

“This marks our first foray into the construction of tollways and is a major milestone in our infrastructure master plan. The opening of TPLEX holds great significance for us because this is the first in a number of major greenfield projects since we began diversifying into new businesses,” said San Miguel President and COO Ramon Ang.

With the soft opening of TPLEX, motorists can have alternative routes and significantly reduce travel time as they move up north.
