Will feature major enhancements for better handling and performance
Not to be outdone by McLaren Special Operations, the automotive company's GT division is set to unveil the track-focused 650S Sprint alongside four global debuts and the McLaren P1 GTR.
The stripped-down Sprint is based on the McLaren 650S Coupe and is fitted with developments to the Brake Steer system, an even more refined active aerodynamics plus a race set-up for the ProActive Chassis Control (PCC).
Its aerodynamically optimized design will offer increased levels of downforce while air coming through the revised air intakes will cool down the 3.8-liter twin-turbo M838T engine that has been calibrated for ‘enhanced on-track drivability and driver engagement.’
The stripped-out interior and the carbon fiber MonoCell chassis that is cradled by an FIA-approved rollcage to ensure the utmost safety of the driver. It sports a lightweight carbon fiber HANS-approved racing seat with full six-point harness. Despite being ‘for track use only,’ the Sprint has an air-conditioning system. For safety, a fire extinguisher system is standard.
Sharing some features with the 650S GT3 race car, the 650S Sprint will have a larger motorsport fuel ‘bag’ tank with quick-fill connectors, a larger GT3-developed front radiator with a GT3-inspired bonnet integrating radiator exit ducts, and the addition of front wings louvers to further optimize airflow over, and around, the bodywork.
The 650S Sprint has a lower ride height with recalibrated adaptive damping for revised spring rates, and sits on 19-inch center-locking racing wheels, fitted with Pirelli slick or wet tires, while an onboard air jacking system enables quick tire changes. It has a race-prepared braking system developed for the 650S Sprint combined with the road car’s highly effective Brake Steer system and enhanced active aerodynamics to offer superior braking performance. This allows for later braking into corners, but also improved brake feel and greater cornering speeds.
More options and upgrades are still available including a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) developed aerodynamic package including carbon fiber rear wing and front splitter, a passenger seat with six-point harness, and further lightweight components including a polycarbonate windscreen.
The 650S Sprint will be priced at USD332,396.46 and available from all official McLaren retailers worldwide or direct from McLaren GT.
