More and more roads are being widened and improved, and the island of Panay will soon benefit from these enhancements.

Recently, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the widening project of the Iloilo East Coast Capiz Road in Panay Island will soon be completed. Originally only having two lanes, the DPWH is putting the final touches on the newly-widened four-lane road.

This comes after DPWH Iloilo 3rd District Engineer Flordelis C. Enriquez stated that the Php 24.69 million project is now 70% complete. Come March 2020, Enriquez said that they plan to have the 803-meter widened road to be fully opened to motorists.

“In support to the “Build, Build, Build” initiative of the administration, we are making all necessary actions to deliver into full completion our infrastructure projects as soon as possible. We prepare catch-up plans in case there are delays due to unforeseen events like calamities and disasters,” added Enriquez.

When finished, the wider Iloilo East Capiz Road is expected to bring in more tourists that are heading towards the northern part of Iloilo which is famous for various tourist destinations like the Isla de Gigantes in the town of Carles. Also renowned in Panay Island are the island barangays situated in Concepcion.

The widening of Iloilo East Coast Capiz Road section is funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for fiscal year 2019.
