Vanda Electrics teases all-electric Dendrobium hypercar concept
A new electric hypercar may soon hit the streets after Vanda Electrics of Singapore recently announced that they will debut the Dendrobium concept at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show. Set to make its world debut on March 7, the upcoming two-seater hypercar will feature a sleek and striking exterior, along with an advanced e-powertrain.
Based on the teaser images, the Dendrobrium concept will have a prominent front fascia courtesy of a large grill, rakish windshield and extended wheel arches. The all-electric concept also features what looks to be sloped roofline and a distinct beltline. Around the back, a huge diffuser and wing dominates the rear section of the concept car which may provide better downforce for the car.
Both the doors and roof automatically open according to Vanda Electrics, and open up in a theartrical manner. It will resemble a fully-blossomed Dendobrium flower, an orchid native to Singapore.
Inside, the company claimed it will be upholstered in Scottish leather courtesy of the Bridge of Weir Leather Company. Their leather is unique as they make them with the latest in green tech, allowing them to produce hides with low carbon.
Details about its powertrain remain a mystery but the company did say that Williams Advanced Engineering is onboard and developing the electric powertrain for the concept. Famous F1 racing Williams Martini Racing is also helping make the e-powertrain possible as it is the company's technical partner.
“Dendrobium is the first Singaporean hypercar and the culmination of Vanda Electrics’ expertise in design and technology. We are delighted to be working with Williams Advanced Engineering, world-leaders in aerodynamics, composites and electric powertrains and Bridge of Weir Leather Company, makers of the finest, lowest-carbon leather in the world. The Dendrobium is inspired by nature and rooted in technology, a marriage of design and engineering,” said Larissa Tan, CEO of Vanda Electrics.
This year's Geneva International Motor Show will take place from March 7 – 19.
