By now you've heard that the D-Max is coming in two days' time. Well you've waited long enough, so we thought it best to get the real deal on how Isuzu's upcoming D-Max will be like, and how it will be specced.
In terms of design, Isuzu crafted the D-Max with the principle: “The Modern Pick-Up for the Future”. The truck was tested in a wind-tunnel in Japan, the same place where they test the Shinkansen bullet trains. The new 2014 D-Max is longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model.
The two base models are the D-Max 4x2 Single Cab and the D-Max 4x2 LT M/T. These two versions will get the 2.5 liter 4JK1-TC engine that makes 109 PS at 3400 rpm and 280 Nm at 1800-2200 rpm with a 5-speed manual transmission. The new 2.5L engine is not equipped with a variable geometry turbo.
The D-Max 4x4 LT, the D-Max 4x2 LS M/T, the D-Max 4x2 LS A/T, the D-Max 4x4 M/T and the D-Max 4x4 A/T all get the 4JJ1-TC CRDI engine. The 4JJ1 was carried over from the previous generation D-Max/Alterra, and makes 146 PS at 3800 rpm and 294 Nm @ 1400-3400 rpm. Like the 2.5L version, the 4JJ1 doesn't get the variable geometry turbo to get the TCX designation for the engine code. The manual variants have 5 speeds while LS automatic transmission variants have a new 5-speed automatic as well. The 4x4 versions get a limited slip differential as standard.
All D-Max 4x4 versions gets a new 4WD Terrain Command Dial for easy selection between 4x2 High, 4x4 High and 4x4 Low. The D-Max 4x4 LS has a ground clearance of 235 millimeters, with approach angles of up to 30 degrees in front, a departure angle of 22.7 degrees. The 4x2 LS and 4x4 LT have 225 millimeters of ground clearance.
For suspension duties, the D-Max gets double wishbones in front with a rigid axle suspended by leaf springs in the back, normal fare for pick-up trucks. The 4x4 LS variants come with 17 inch alloys with 255/65/R17 tires. The 4x2 LS models have 16 inch alloys with 245/70/R16 tires. The 4x4 LT gets 16 inch steel wheels with 245/70/R16 tires.
For features, the LT variants get power windows, central locks, vinyl seats and a 1-DIN audio system.
The LS variants will get an integrated audio system (same as the Chevrolet Colorado) with AM, FM, CD, MP3 functionality with a Mini USB port, Aux-in, Bluetooth and 6-speakers. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather, same goes with the seats which are upholstered in leather with a 'mahogany shade'. The driver's seat is 6-way power adjustable. For safety, the Isuzu D-Max LS gets ABS, EBD, BA, dual front airbags, projector headlamps, foglamps, and other features.
As we previously stated, the D-Max will come in a pair of LT variants and a total of four LS variants, though we can now add a D-Max Single Cab to that roster, bringing up the total number of variants to seven. Here are the seven variants along with their respective prices:

The D-Max Single Cab is available in Splash White only, while the two LT variants are available in Splash White and Titanium Silver.
The Isuzu D-Max LS variants are available in Garnet Red, Cosmic Black, Splash White, Titanium Silver and Ash Beige.
