Vietnam-based automaker VinFast made a strong impression last year when they made their world debut as a carmaker together with two stylish launch models called the LUX A2.0 Sedan and LUX SA2.0 SUV.
Now, just a year later, the company has rolled out its first vehicle from their assembly line. Unfortunately, it isn't the Pininfarina styled duo shown at the 2018 Paris Auto Show. Instead it will be this, a small hatchback called the Fadil, which is already on sale in Vietnam.
If the Fadil looks somewhat familiar to you (especially those into European cars), that's because it is essentially an Opel Karl hatchback, with a revised front and rear fascia. Specifically, it based on the Karl Rocks version which features blackened wheel arch extensions, raised suspension and lower body cladding to give it a more rugged look. The Fadil hatchback measures in at 3676mm long, 1632mm wide, 1495mm tall, with a 2385mm wheelbase and 150mm ground clearance.
In Vietnam, the Fadil comes standard with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine which produces 98 horsepower and 128 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Standard features on the VinFast Fadil include six airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake distribution, traction and stability control, and even hill-start assist.
Customers in Vietnam can now order the Fadil for a starting price of VND 395 million (Php 884,000 apx.). Deliveries of the Fadil are expected to begin soon.
As for the Lux A2.0 and Lux SA2.0 launch models, it is still uncertain when they will start rolling out of the VinFast factory. However, you can see completed models of both the sedan and SUV already on the factory floor so expect deliveries to be made very soon.
