In a classic case of one-upmanship, Dodge's SRT (Street and Racing Technology), Chrysler's high performance division, got back on the Nürburgring Nordschleife to reclaim their production car lap record with the Viper ACR.

Recently, the Lexus LFA Nürburgring edition broke the Viper's previous record, setting a lap time around the 22 kilometer course in just 7 minutes 14.64 seconds, surpassing the old record of the Viper set in 2008 of 7 minutes 22.1 seconds.

SRT engineers prepared their contender for the run by running a 2010 Viper ACR with a shortened 5th gear, improved rear wing aerodynamics and a short throw shifter. With these improvements, the team then reset their previous best by 10 seconds, lapping the Green Hell in just 7 minutes, 12.13 seconds; a full 2 seconds quicker than the LFA.

Will Lexus respond to this challenge from the Viper ACR and the SRT team behind it?
