Volkswagen has introduced a refreshed Beetle with some exterior revisions and new special edition models for 2017.

The three edition models are namely the following: Beetle, Design, and new R-Line which replaces the Sport variant. A stand-alone Dune version and three more special edition models namely, the Beetle Denim, the Beetle Allstar, and the Beetle Cabriolet Karmann will also be available soon.

To achieve a wider and sturdier look, Volkswagen introduced a redesigned front bumper with a black trim, a chrome crossbar for the Design versions, and a larger central air inlet. Also included are fog lights with integrated cornering lights, front indicators, and park assist sensors. There are also two new exterior colors for the Beetle, White Silver Metallic and Bottle Green Metallic (of which includes 12 paint colors).

And depending on the version, the 18-inch alloy wheels painted in Ravena Admantium are paired with smoked LED taillights. The Beetle Convertible's soft top color options has expanded from two to four; black, nutria beige, blue jeans look for the Denim limited edition model, and sioux brown for the special Karmann edition.

If the exterior changes were profound, the revisions to the interior of the 2017 Beetle were more subtle. Volkswagen updated the cabin colors, materials, and technical features. The steering wheel, center console trim, rings around the air vents and trim of the door puller can be specified in color depending on the client's preference. It also features new dashpad designs, seat fabrics and colors, instrument dials, and adjustable ambient lighting.

For the engines, three turbocharged straight injection (TSI) and two turbocharged direct injection (TDI) engines are made available for the Beetle and Beetle Cabriolet. The turbo engine offers a power output ranging from 105 to 220 PS. Available transmission include a manual and a dual-clutch gearbox. The top of the range 220 PS engine will only be available for the Beetle/Beetle Cabriolet R-Line, Dune, Exclusive R-Line, and Denim.

Other features present in the 2017 Beetle include: Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Composition Color radio with eight loudspeakers, 6.3-inch touchscreen, telephone interface. MP3 playlist, Discover Media system which includes navigation system and car guide online services, and a higher-spec Composition Media system as an option.

These three systems belongs to Volkswagen's latest modular infotainment matrix (MIB II) which are connected via App-Connect. It also features a 400W subwoofer and an iPod/iPhone interface.
