With 2019 fast approaching, Volkswagen is announcing a few changes to their managerial staff once the new year is in full swing. Having made staff switches both in VW’s Wolfsburg HQ and even as far as other sizeable markets like South America, it looks like these individuals in their new roles will be part of key changes for VW’s future.
For starters, Dr. Ulrich Eichorn, currently the head of Research and Development for the VW group, will be taking a new position over at the Ingenieurgesellschaft Auto und Verkehr (Engineer Society for Automotive and Traffic, IAV GmbH) as Chairman of the Management Board.
The IAV is a university-related institute that supplies automotive manufacturers and component suppliers. Notable clients of the IAV include VW, BMW, Peugeot, Ford, GM, and Toyota. Replacing Eichorn as head of R&D at VW will be Dr. Frank Welsch, a current member of the Board of Management at VW and has been part of VW Group Research as early as 1994. This particular change will be effective by January 1, 2019.
Across the pond, changes to management for VW Group’s Argentinean arm are also underway. Thomas Zahn, previously Head of Sales and Marketing of Volkswagen AG, is to become President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Argentina S.A. effective February 1, 2019. Having joined VW as early as 1997, Zahn was more recently responsible for the Volkswagen brand’s business in Germany as Head of Sales and Marketing there.
Pablo Di Si, president and CEO of Volkswagen Latin America, said: “With Thomas Zahn, we have an experienced sales strategist with international know-how at the helm of Volkswagen Argentina S.A. he will manage the company in a challenging environment and further strengthen our position in the country.”
