After surpassing 1,000 units sold last year, Volkswagen Philippines has appointed a new CEO along with the announcement of new models to arrive in the country this year. After heading the brand for three years, John Philip Orbeta now makes way for Arthur R. Tan, who will also lead AC Industrial Technology Holdings.
AC Industrial Technology Holdings, the industrial conglomerate of Ayala Corporation, is seeking to to invest in local manufacturing for their products. On top of that, we reported that Ayala Corporation is prepared to invest up to US$100 million to develop manufacturing facilities in the Philippines for self-driving cars.
With the a new sales record for Volkswagen Philippines, the company has set a goal to double their sales in 2017. During the recent thanksgiving dinner, the automaker said that they will be bringing in two new vans and an MPV in the Philippines soon.
First is the Volkswagen Caddy which was previewed during last year's Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). The Caddy is a seven-seat MPV based on a stretched Golf platform and will share family hauling duties with another Golf-based people carrier, the Touran. Volkswagen Philippines will also be introducing the Crafter. The Crafter is the largest van offered by Volkswagen and offers seating for nine. Last is the T6 Kombi, which follows the lineage of the iconic Volkswagen Bus.
Volkswagen Philippines will also be introducing new variants of the Jetta, Golf, Tiguan and Beetle. Most recently, the company announced a new variant for the Polo Notch and Polo Hatch, dubbed the Club Edition. The company also said that they will be bringing in new cars in the 'entry-level' market but did not mention which exact models.
