When it comes to crossovers, Volkswagen will spoil you for choice. The German marque currently has one of the widest selections of high-riding vehicles available, ranging in various sizes from small to big. Still, it seems their current lineup isn’t enough. As such, VW will launch another one very soon, and it’s called the Taigo.
Volkswagen has only revealed design sketches of the Taigo, and so far, it looks promising. Rather than being a typical boxy crossover, it features a sportier crossover-coupe design. The front end is what you expect from Volkswagen, with a large grille flanked by a pair of slim headlights. Below it sits an aggressive-looking bumper and large wheels, both of which will be toned down in the production
What is interesting is the Taigo’s rear end. Reminds you of a certain Audi for some reason? Well, from this angle, the upcoming crossover looks very similar to the Q8. Specifically, the full-width LED taillight that sits inside a black housing lends it the Q8 look. Meanwhile, the bumper adopts a sporty design with black trim and a twin-exit exhaust.
There are no sketches of the interior yet. But, Volkswagen does say it will have a fully digital cockpit combined with “a multitude of assist systems”. LED headlights will come standard on the crossover-coupe as well. Under the hood, the Taigo will be powered by a variety of TSI engines. There was no mention of whether diesel engines will be available on the Taigo as well.
The Taigo is based on the Nivus model from Brazil and will be manufactured for the European market in Pamplona, Spain. The new crossover will debut this summer and go on sale at the end of 2021.
Will the Philippines get the Taigo? For now, it seems unlikely. Remember, the T-Cross is already on its way here. Still, there’s always room for more crossovers, right?
