Next-gen 2019 Volkswagen Touareg set to debut in Beijing

Crossovers are perhaps the hottest sellers in the global automotive scene today. Manufacturers are rushing to churn out these high-riding 'soft-roaders' as fast as they can and Volkswagen is determined to fill in every size category possible.

Volkswagen is starting 2018 with the introduction of the third-generation Touareg by next month. In terms of size, it slots below the full-sized Atlas but when it comes to equipment levels, Volkswagen calls it their flagship crossover. After months of spy shots, Volkswagen has officially released a teaser, showing the all-new Touareg in sketch form.

The front of the next-generation Touareg features the marque's latest design language. Inspired by the Arteon, it has the slim, rectangular headlights which merge onto the larger grill. Its sides feature deep, defined creases on the doors with the rear quarter panel hinting a slightly flared look. For now, Volkswagen has yet to show off the rear but it is likely that it may draw some cues from the smaller Tiguan.

Last February 2017, our eagle-eyed spies managed to take photos of the next-gen Touareg. Compared to the outgoing model, the next-gen prototype appears larger and sleeker. Its front fascia also draws heavily from the new Tiguan and Arteon despite the heavy camouflage.

At the same time, Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen North American Region, told members of the press of their crossover expansion plans for the future. The CEO made this announcement during the 2018 Chicago Auto Show, In the coming years, Woebcken said that they plan to add an A-segment and B-Segment sized crossover. He added that they also aim to build two more crossovers in the 'compact and mid-sized segment'.

The all-new Volkswagen Touareg will make its official debut in Beijing on March 23, 2018.
