Part two of three Volvo concepts to represent Swedish brand's new design direction
The Volvo Concept XC Coupe will make its global debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next month. The Concept XC Coupe follows on a few months after the Concept Coupe made its debut at Frankfurt in September based on the Swedish carmaker’s new Scalable Product Architecture platform which draws inspiration from the legendary Volvo P1800.
Volvo has released sketches of the upcoming concept crossover penned by Senior Designer T. Jon Mayer, who moved to the Swedish brand in August of 2011 after his five-year stint with Ford. The concept follows the brand’s new design direction under Thomas Ingenlath, the company’s Senior Vice President of Design.
A teaser image released with the sketches shows former Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello with the Concept XC Coupe. In May this year, the electronic dance music trio collaborated with Volvo to release their farewell video entitled ‘Leave the World Behind’, a cover song by Lune of a 2009 track by the group.
The Concept XC Coupe, the second of three design studies, will preview the next-generation Volvo XC crossovers, with the XC90 slated for debut in 2014. The concept will make its official debut on January 13, but Volvo has nicely revealed that it will release full details on January 8.
