Volvo has expanded its electrified lineup with the debut of new long-range plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants of the XC60 and XC90 crossover SUVs. The updated models represent a major leap forward in pure electric capability, with the refreshed mid-size XC60 boasting an electric driving range of up to 200 kilometers on a single charge, while the full-size XC90 provides up to 160 kilometers, both based on the WLTP cycle.

These figures represent more than two and a half times the zero-emission range of Volvo's previous plug-in hybrid configurations. Volvo accomplished this extension by integrating a new, higher-capacity battery pack into the vehicle floor, paired with a more powerful electric motor. A gasoline engine remains available to seamlessly take over on longer journeys, while mild-hybrid powertrains will continue to be offered alongside the new long-range setups.

Alongside the battery upgrades, the XC60 benefits from a thorough visual refresh. Exterior updates include a redesigned front bumper, an updated grille, revised front fenders, a restyled hood, new wheel options, and a refined execution of Volvo's signature Thor's Hammer Matrix LED headlights.

At the back, updated LED taillights and a restyled bumper highlight horizontal lines to give the crossover a broader, more grounded stance. Interior changes include a new dashboard design, updated door panels, natural wood decor, available Cardamom ventilated Nappa leather, and an 11.2-inch central display running the latest Volvo Car UX system.

Technology and safety features have also been elevated across both model lines. The XC60 and XC90 now feature Google Gemini integration, enabling natural conversational voice controls for navigation, messaging, and route planning.

The active safety suite on the XC60 incorporates automatic emergency steering, instant emergency braking, cyclist alerts prior to opening doors, lane change assist, and a 360-degree camera with a 3D view. The seven-seater XC90 carries over its familiar luxury focus, offering optional Bowers & Wilkins premium audio, alongside the updated digital interface.

Order books for the long-range XC60 and XC90 variants, including special Black Edition models, are now open in selected global markets. Meanwhile, vehicle production is scheduled to begin later this autumn, with all units supported by over-the-air software updates to deliver future functionality improvements.
