Last week, the all-new Isuzu mu-X officially made its way to the Philippines. All-new from bumper to bumper, the 7-seater SUV is available in 5 variants, all of which come with a plethora of safety features as standard.

From anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, traction control, stability control, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, as well as a host of airbags (7 on the LS-E, 2 on the LS-A, and LS), the 2022 mu-X is packed to the brim with safety features. But just how safe is the new model?

We're happy to report that the 2022 Isuzu mu-X is indeed a safe vehicle to be in. Just recently, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) gave the mu-X a perfect five-star safety rating.

For starters, the mu-X scored a high 87% on adult occupancy protection (AOP) – gaining full marks on the side impact and pole oblique tests. It also received perfect marks in whiplash protection for the rear passengers and for rescue & extrication. All in all, it scored 33.25 out of 38 points in AOP.

The mu-X also scored well in child occupant protection with an 85% safety rating. It was able to get a perfect score in dynamic side protection and in child restraint installation. It did score slightly lower points on the onboard features. Rounded up, the mu-X scored a total of 41.99 out of 49 points in COP.

Where it underperformed is in the vulnerable road user protection, aka the pedestrian safety protection. Since it's a high-riding SUV, it was only able to score 37.63 points out of a total of 54 points. The mu-X was able to bounce back thanks to the automatic emergency braking (AEB) feature.

Last but not least, the all-new mu-X received 13.49 out of a total of 16 points in safety assist (SA) with a safety rating of 84%. Thanks to the new intelligent Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), it gave the mu-X the ability to keep occupants safe at all times. Some of the available features present include:

  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)

  • Turn Assist

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Intelligent Speed Limiter (ISL)

  • Manual Speed Limiter (MSL)

  • Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)

  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)

  • Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK)

  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)

  • Multi-Collision Brake

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)

  • Automatic High Beam

  • Pedal Misapplication Mitigation

For those that are looking to buy an all-new mu-X, you can be sure that the SUV can keep your family safe. Check out the video and see for yourself just how safe the 2022 mu-X is.

However, we have yet to see ANCAP do a crash test on the mu-X's rear. We're curious to see just how durable the new plastic tailgate the new mu-X is. Hopefully, ANCAP or other testing agencies do a rear impact test soon.
