The Mitsubishi Lancer Boxtype is possibly one of the most iconic vehicles in the Philippines. In fact, it has somewhat become a household name due to its popularity in the ’80s. Odds are someone you know has owned one in the past or even still drives one today.

Now if you’re suddenly feeling nostalgic, you’ll soon have the chance to revive your old Boxtype or even create the Boxtype of your dreams without having to spend more than five digits

Aoshima has announced that they will soon be releasing a 1/24 scale model of the ever popular Lancer Boxtype (or the Lancer EX Turbo as they call it in Japan) for the first time. Specifically, the model they’ll be producing is an ’84 Rally Version complete with a roll cage, bucket seats, and fog lights. It even comes with Advan livery and stickers to replicate the original ‘80s rally car.

What’s great about Aoshima scale model kits however is that builders don’t necessarily have to follow details in every step. They can simply choose to ignore some of the parts included in the kit and just build it how they want. Drop by the local hobby store and builders can even choose a different set of wheels to put on together with other bits such as a GT Wing. Because of the endless number of modification choices, builders can essentially do whatever they want with the kit.

The company has announced that the kit will be released in June 2019 and will be built jointly with Macao model maker Beemax. The planned price of the kit is JPY 4200 (about Php 1,960). Considering the rising popularity of scale model builds in the country, we won't be surprised if we start seeing models of the Lancer Turbo built to local specs soon.
