Last year, Chevrolet introduced the new, redesigned Blazer crossover. Though it is no longer the same full-sized truck-based model as its predecessor, it is still a respectively sized crossover. At the time, however, General Motors only offered it as a two-row, 5-seater variant. Now, a larger, three-row, 7-seat variant of the Blazer has joined the party after making its debut in China.
When it comes to design, the 7-seat Blazer looks nearly identical to that of the standard 5-seat version. Upfront, the design language still draws inspiration from the brand’s sports coupe, the Camaro featuring a two-tier headlight design and an aggressive grill. Meanwhile, the rest of the body is inspired by the FNR-CarryAll Concept.
The biggest change with the 7-seat Blazer comes in size. Specifically, the 7-seat Blazer is said to measure almost 5 meters long, which is around the same size as the most pickup platform vehicles (PPVs) on the market today. According to Chevrolet, the longer size ensures “a high level of comfort for all occupants”.
No photos of the interior have been revealed at the moment. However, expect it to more or less be carried over from the standard 5-seat version albeit with the addition of a third row. As such, expect there to be an upright dashboard with round air-conditioning vents on the corners and at the center. There will also be a large floating infotainment screen in the middle of the dashboard.
Similarly, Chevrolet did not provide any information about the longer Blazer's powertrain. The current 5-seat version is available with two engine options in the US: a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder unit, and a larger 3.6-liter V6. The four-cylinder engine produces 194 PS and 255 Nm of torque while the large V6 pushes out 308 PS and 365 Nm of torque.
There is no word whether this larger 7-seat Blazer will be offered in Asia. At the moment, the model is exclusive only to China. Considering that Chevrolet Philippines only has one crossover at the moment (the Trax), having a bigger model in its lineup could help boost sales in the country.
