If there's one trend we noticed in the past couple of years, it's that more automakers are sourcing models from China. Volkswagen Philippines' entire range hails from Shanghai, while Kia, Hyundai, and even Ford get models from Yangcheng, Beijing, and Chongqing, respectively.
But we focus our attention on Ford as they have two models from China, namely the EcoSport and Territory. Because of their country of origin, it got us thinking, what else can Ford Philippines get from Ford China? After looking at the line-up over there, there are some likely candidates.
Should Ford Philippines bring in more models from China, these are likely to be crossovers. The three possible models are the Focus Shooting Brake, Edge, and Explorer. These crossovers are assembled in China, so that should make their prices competitive.
The Focus Shooting Brake can perhaps appeal to those who want a high-riding station wagon, while the Edge can serve as the automaker's mid-size seven-seat crossover. Then again, the Edge might overlap with the Everest, but Ford Philippines could multiply their sales if they play their cards right. As for the all-new Explorer, it might land here given the popularity of the soon to be outgoing generation.
But while Ford Philippines is concentrating on crossovers, SUVs, and pick-ups, we can't help but think of adding a sedan or two in the line-up. While the odds of those models coming here are slim, we reckon they're still worth a look. They could re-introduce the Escort locally, along with the recently facelifted Focus sedan. Less likely to land here is the full-sized Taurus since the market for large sedans sank significantly since the dawn of crossovers and SUVs.
So, do any of these China-sourced Ford models catch your attention? If so, which one would you want Ford Philippines to bring in here?
