Residents living in Rizal (and in neighboring cities / municipalities) can now ply along the busy Barkadahan Bridge once more after the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) recently finished widening the 245-meter long road link in Taytay, Rizal.
The reopened bridge will serve as an alternate route for motorists that frequently use Laguna Lake Highway (formerly C-6 Road) as opposed to EDSA and C-5 Road. According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the widening of Barakadahan Bridge will also benefit motorists that travel to Rizal, Marikina, Quezon City.
In addition, the bridge will also allow motorists to travel between western parts of Metro Manila, as well as South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) via Bicutan and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
"The additional one (1) lane each in both the east and west direction can be used by motorists going to Taytay, Rizal area and South Luzon Expressway via Bicutan. Travel time from Barkadahan Bridge to Bicutan SLEX will be shortened from one (1) hour to only 30 minutes," added Villiar.
The DPWH was able to finish the road widening project this year after addressing right-of-way issues. Villar said that they were able to relocate the affected informal settlers with close coordination with the concerned stakeholders.
The government agency allocated Php 114.35 million for the widening and improvement of Barkadahan Bridge.
