We have already seen Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Ford release the updated versions of the Fortuner, Montero Sport, and Everest for the 2021 model year. Meanwhile, Isuzu launched the next-generation mu-X in Thailand not too long ago and it received a major makeover inside and out.
This leaves Nissan as the only midsize SUV in the segment to not have received a major update (apart from a very mild refresh in August 2019) ever since it was released in the country back in 2018. However, it looks like we'll not be waiting long before Nissan eventually reveals it.
Just recently, patent images, along with what appear to be design renderings of the refreshed Terra, were leaked online. Leaked by Instagram user 'ber.kendara', it looks like the Terra will receive a stylish new look that appears to be reminiscent of the Patrol.
If the images are to be believed, the supposed 2021 Terra will have a bigger front grille, quad projector headlights that look similar to the 2021 Navara, as well as a new front bumper complete with bigger corner intakes and updated foglight bezels. Images of the rear are not present, although it looks like the 2021 refresh will get a redesigned rear bumper, along with a new set of alloy wheels.
As for the interior, the 2021 Terra will supposedly get an updated dashboard that will look vastly different from the current model. In addition, it looks like it will not look similar to that of the Navara's interior design. From the aircon vents, instrument panel housing, as well as the center console, it seems Nissan was busy changing up Terra's cabin.
Details regarding the SUV's engine remain to be a mystery. However, just like the refreshed Navara, the 2021 Terra may continue to soldier on with the 2.5-liter turbo-diesel engine. It makes 190 PS with 450 Nm of torque and can be connected to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic.
With no definite date yet as to when Nissan will be launching the 2021 Terra, all we can do for now is wait. But should it be revealed soon, we're hoping that Nissan will decide to build Terras (and Navaras) for the local market at Mitsubishi Motors PH's factory.
