One of the vehicles we are excited for Kia to launch is the all-new Sportage. So far the South Korean automaker has been quiet as to when the next-generation crossover will debut. Over in China, however, it seems we might have a glimpse as to what it could look like.
Kia has just revealed the facelifted Sportage Ace in China. It features a radical new look inspired by the brand's other crossovers such as the Telluride, Mohave, and Sorento. Upfront, the Sportage Ace has a large tiger-nose grille that connects seamlessly to the headlights. The headlights have a unique design, unlike any current-generation Kia model. There are also large side intake vents on the bumper, giving the crossover an aggressive look.
Viewed from the rear, the Sportage Ace appears to be heavily inspired by the Telluride with its tall vertical taillights. The “Sportage” lettering is also spaced out above a chrome strip on the tailgate. Other design cues include a roof spoiler, a large diffuser, and twin exit exhausts. Interestingly, Kia fitted the crossover with all-terrain tires, giving it some off-road capability.
Unfortunately, there are no photos of the interior but given Kia's reputation, it should be quite high-tech and loaded with screens akin to most China models.
It's worth mentioning that the Kia Sportage Ace is unrelated to the Sportage sold globally (including the ones in the Philippines). Instead, it shares the same underpinnings as the Hyundai ix35 that is based on the second-generation Tucson. The Sportage Ace is unlikely to land in the country but it gives us an idea as to what the next-generation Sportage could look like when it debuts either next year or in early 2022.
