2021 Jeep Wrangler gets upgraded 2.0L turbo, new 80th Anniversary special
Who would have thought the Wrangler is now 80 years old? From first seeing service during World War II as the Willys, the go-anywhere 4x4 has become one of the most popular SUVs around the world. And now, Jeep is celebrating its 80th anniversary in a special way.
This is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler, and it gets some neat upgrades all around. Meanwhile, the 80th Anniversary Edition Wrangler gets some special equipment, along with some key upgrades. For starters, the celebratory model dons a unique Neutral Gray Metallic paint job, unique 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels with Granite Crystal accents, and full LED headlights.
To let everyone know this is indeed a very special Wrangler, it comes with 80th Anniversary badges on the front wheel arches, along with a commemorative plaque on the rear swing gate. There are also new colors available for the (non-80th Anniversary models) 2021 Wrangler. These are Hydro Blue, Snazzberry, and Sarge Green as seen here.
The interior of this particular Wrangler was also given special attention. It gets black leather seats with tungsten contrast stitching, a leather-wrapped dashboard, and Berber floor mats. Like the exterior, Jeep also installed an 80th Anniversary badge inside the vehicle.
When it comes to features, it gets 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment with navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 9-speaker Alpine audio system with a 552W subwoofer, and a 7-inch multi-info display.
Under the hood, the 2021 Wrangler is now available with an upgraded 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four. It now makes 272 PS and is Euro6D compliant. The result is fewer CO2 emissions ranging between 243 - 251g/km, a reduction of over 10g/km over the previous motor. An 8-speed automatic transmission then sends power to the wheels.
Like all Wranglers, the 2021 model year update (including the 80th Anniversary Edition) comes with the Command-Trac 4x4 systems, and the Selec-Trac two-speed transfer case. It also comes with Selec-Speed Control, which acts like off-road cruise control, and an adjustable tire pressure system that can automatically inflate or deflate the tires while going off-road.
Jeep says the 2021 Wrangler and the 80th Anniversary Edition are now available in international markets. But will Jeep Philippines actually offer the Anniversary special here? According to a reliable source, we'll find out in the coming weeks as they're still waiting for HQ to give the go-ahead for Asia. You can chime in below to encourage Jeep to offer it to our market.
