The construction of the 8.5-kilometer bridge project connecting Cebu City with the municipality of Cordova in Mactan Island is nearing completion. Just last month, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corp (CCLEC) announced that work on the said bridge is already at 80%. Moreover, the company plans to open to the public by Q1 of 2022.
Fast forward to the present day, and CCLEC has made significant progress on the bridge. To show just how close they are to completing it, CCLEC released new photos of the main bridge deck. As of yesterday, the company said that there are only 20 meters left before the 390-meter main bridge deck will be connected.
Once construction on the main bridge deck is complete, they will focus on the finishing touches on the bridge's 5-km crossway portions of the viaduct on both sides. CCLEC will also complete the installation of other key structures like girders and diaphragms to aid in the bridge's stability.
Aside from working on the main bridge deck, the company is also finishing the approaches on both the Cebu Cordova sections.
Construction of the major on/off CCLEX bridge ramps in the Cebu South Coastal is already finished, which will allow a seamless journey for motorists when crossing the bridge. On the Mactan side, widening sections of the Mactan Circumferential Road (MCR) in Lapu-Lapu City and Pilipog in Cordova have also been completed.
With CCLEC intending to complete work by December 2021, we're hoping they will be able to finish construction before the year ends.
