Despite the pandemic, work on the main bridge deck of CCLEX has been completed

It might have taken some time, but work on the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX is nearing completion.

Just recently, the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp (CCLEC) just announced that they have completed work on the main span of the bridge. This was made official after workers finished pouring concrete on the final segment of the main bridge deck.

Closing the deck's final segment was no easy feat, however. The two decks had to be tightened securely at their final elevation. With the right amount of re-stressing the required cables before propping them up in their final position, the main bridge was finally completed and is set to provide motorists in both Cebu and Cordova a faster way of traveling.

“Today, we have achieved a major construction feat, when the two-meter gap that had separated main bridge deck of Tower 1 from the bridge deck of Tower 2 became one; thanks to a special joint concreting engineering procedure done over the waters of the Mactan Channel, and linking two economies with a lot of promise – Cebu City and the Municipality of Cordova,” said Rodrigo E. Franco, president of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation.

With the main bridge span now connected, CCLEC is now looking forward to finishing up the remaining works before opening CCLEX to the public in Q1 of 2022.

“We can’t wait to see Cebuanos enjoy the ultimate expressway experience afforded by using this bridge,” shared Allan G. Alfon, president and general manager of CCLEC.

The CCLEX will measure a total of 8.9-km and will have an electronic toll collection system once it's open to the public. It is set to decongest traffic in both Metro Cebu, and help spur economic development in both Cebu and Cordova.
