Last year, BMW introduced the X2 in order to further expand the brand's crossover model line up. At the time, the most powerful variant was equipped with a twin-turbo four-cylinder engine which produced 231 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Now BMW's in-house tuner, M, seems to gave gotten their hands on the compact crossover and gave it a more power together with an aggressive styling package.
Enter the X2 M35i.
The new M35i sits at the top of the X2 model series. Under the hood, it features the similar 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder engine but now produces 306 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. BMW claims it as the most powerful four-cylinder engine they have produced so far. Power is then sent to all-four wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Because of this, the M35i can go from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
To help improve handling and lower the X2, an M Sport suspension system with stiffer springs and dampers has been installed and tuned to match. Adaptive suspension allows the driver to choose between two different driving modes – sport or comfort. An M Sport Differential was also installed in the front axle to improve traction on the front wheels. Larger front and rear brakes help stop the more powerful X2.
Externally, the M35i looks almost identical to the standard X2. The only difference would be the twin exit exhausts at the rear, Cerium Gray accents located on the front bumper and side mirrors, and the M rear spoilers. Rounding up the exterior make over would be the new 19-inch wheels which hide the larger brakes.
Inside, more M Sport goodies have been installed such as the sportier steering wheel with paddle shifters. There are some unique features on the X2 M35i such as the seats which appears to be specific for this model only.
Production of the X2 M35i is set to begin in November 2018. Other regions will be getting the M35i at a later date in 2019.
