If you've always wanted to own a very special limited edition MX-5, here's your chance.
At an intimate event at the Mazda Makati dealership, Mazda Philippines had a surprise in store: they announced that the 30th Anniversary Edition of the MX-5 will be available in the country. The vehicle commemorates the world premiere of the original Mazda MX-5 at the Chicago Auto Show in 1989.
The 30th Anniversary model follows in the tire treads of the 25th Anniversary special edition that Mazda sold in 2014. Aptly enough, 25 units of the 25th Anniversary model (third generation, NC) were sold here, and so Mazda Philippines decided to sell 30 units of the 30th (fourth generation, ND).
Worldwide, only 3,000 units of the MX-5 30th Anniversary will be available.
The 30th Anniversary Mazda MX-5 is not just a marketing gimmick, and it comes packed with a lot of special features and enhancements that set it apart from the standard models. Firstly, it will only be available in Racing Orange, a throwback color of the car that Mazda won with at the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Racing Orange theme continues inside with accent panels and piping on the upholstery of the Recaro seats of this two seater. It also comes with Alcantara upholstery, a 9-speaker Bose audio system, and a numbered 30TH ANNIVERSARY plate.
The special commemorative model isn't just about accents and colors though, as it comes with some major upgrades to enhance the driving performance. The front brakes (also in orange) are made by brake specialist Brembo while the rear brakes are also orange and made by Nissin. All 30th Anniversary Editions come with lightweight Rays ZE40 RS30 wheels. The forged aluminum wheels have 30TH ANNIVERSARY engraved on them.
The Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition comes standard with a 184 PS 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G engine driving the rear wheels. Both 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options will be available. Interestingly only the 6-MT variant will have Bilstein dampers.
All Philippine models of the MX-5 30th will be the RF (Retractable Fastback) variant. No soft top versions will be offered.
If you want one of these special units, both the MT and AT variants will retail for PhP 2,990,000. Don't take too long to decide, as 30 units are expected to be spoken for very quickly.
