For the first time, the 2013 edition of the Trans Sport Show migrated from its home at the SM Mega Trade Hall to a new venue: the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
For 2013, the Trans Sport Show features the theme “Driving Generations”, highlighting the values of automotive passion being passed on from one generation to another.
50 years of 911, 60 years of Corvette
In line with the 50th and 60th anniversary celebrations of two of the world's most iconic sportscar lines, the 2013 TSS organizers got together a near complete collection of the Porsche 911 as well as the Chevrolet Corvette.
On display were several pristine Porsche 911s from the 1960s up to the present day, including some wildly modified examples made for racing. The cars came from the Porsche Club Philippines
Alongside the 911 display was the Corvette area, showcasing 60 years of one of America's proudest muscle cars. From C1 up to C6 Corvettes, all are represented, including an original 1978 Indianapolis 500 Corvette C3 Pace Car. The cars were displayed by the Manila Sports Car Club.
Group B and DTM Glory
Along with the Corvettes and 911s were two very special displays. Occupying a side of the show was a collection of German cars from Mercedes and BMW. The Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft-inspired automobiles were a project of the members of the Philippine DTM Revival. The racing enthusiasts promoted the series at the show, and showcased the Mercedes-Benz 190E Evolution as well as the BMW M3.
Also of not are the cars inspired by Group B rallying back in the day. The WRC subsequently banned these ultra high performance machines after a series of accidents that gained them the reputation as widow makers. One of these is the Audi Quattro, the machine that kicked off the 4WD revolution back in the 1980s. Also on display is a mighty Nissan 240RS Rally Car in Group B spec and an Opel Manta.
The main staple of the 2013 Trans Sport Show will be the long list of JDM cars competing for honors. With judges flown in from Japan, the panel will be meticulously viewing the numerous Civics, Lancers, Integras, S2000s, and other mean Japanese machines on display.
