What we saw at MIAS
So you're thinking of going to the 2012 Manila International Auto Show at the World Trade Center. Well, below are just a few tips for, as well as things you can expect from the show
If you're looking for something to do this weekend, then head on over to the World Trade Center in Pasay City for the 2012 Manila International Auto Show.
What to see
There are, of course, many things to see at the show with many of the major players in the Philippine auto industry launching their latest models.
Ford is out in full force, giving the public a peek at the all new Ford Ranger, the EcoBoost-powered Ford Explorer, as well as a preview of the Ford Mustang that will be available on order soon. The new Ranger is poised to take over the market with many unique features and a premium attention to style.
Not to be outdone, Hyundai took over one whole side of the World Trade Center as well to launch two key models with the debuts of the ultra compact Eon hatchback and the funky Hyundai Veloster. They also have a little iPad racing game featuring the Hyundai Veloster for showgoers.
The theme of the show is “Life in the Fast Lane”, and brands such as Subaru and BMW are keen on showcasing what their new cars are for the year. Rally-specialists Subaru, care of Motor Image Pilipinas, have brought out the Subaru XV crossover, joined by the Forester, Legacy and Outback models at the show. Along with their multi-car display, they have once again brought in precision specialist Russ Swift to give showgoers a high-octane driving demonstration.
At the BMW booth, Asian Carmakers Corporation is bringing M to Manila with the entire BMW M line on display. The horsepower frenzy is led by the new M5, flanked by the 1-series M, the previous generation M6, the M3 convertible and the X5 M.
MINI is also out to show their fun side and came to MIAS to launch the MINI Coupe and Roadster. Also, under the AutoHub Group is MotoItalia, and launched various scooters like the business-inclined Ape.
Land Rover and Jaguar have come to MIAS with the new Range Rover Evoque and the Jaguar XJ to give showgoers a taste of the high life. Also, CATS Motors is in top form with a great variety of cars on display from Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep. The new Mercedes C63 AMG is on display, along with the Dodge Challenger and Charger, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 8-speed Chrysler 300C.
The Chinese brands are also in attendace with Foton revealing their all new pick up, the Thunder, and Chana revealing the King Long van. Geely are out as well with the EC7 and the little LC.
Of course, on top of all the action are the various booths, auto accessories, many activities and the car show women, all of which can be seen at the 2012 Manila International Auto Show.
For a better MIAS experience, showgoers should dress comfortably and lightly, arrive early for better parking (at the CITEM compound or across Buendia), and wear the softest, most comfortable shoes you can get, as the floor plan of MIAS means you have to walk all the way through the two aircon tents and the PTTC building just to get to the exit.
