Slowing down with the family
After another tough week at work, even throwing in a Saturday just to get things done, it’s nice to know I still have today to myself without any meetings, Zoom calls, and appointments to keep. Best of all, I get to spend quality time with those most important to me.
Without any schedule to keep, I get a pretty late 9:00 AM start with a cup of joe for that good old caffeine fix, but it’s nice that I get to take slow sips this time instead of quick gulps. Times like these happen only once a week, so I enjoy the short but sweet downtime.
Drives in the Mercedes-Benz GLB must be enjoyed, but it’s sometimes hard to do while stuck in traffic or when my mind is preoccupied with projects and deadlines. With the threat of the pandemic still out there, a no-destination-drive on a traffic-free Sunday inside this posh cabin is the new-normal way to spend quality time with the family and break the monotony of the home/office/school setting.
On a day like today, the 1.3L turbocharged gasoline engine with 163 PS and 250 Nm of torque is more than enough to take us away. It doesn’t have to be fast because the only record I plan to break today is 24 hours of not checking work emails. The drive doesn’t have to be far either; just enough to get away from the stresses of work and even give Jack a look at what’s going on with the world around him.
I drop them off after the joyride to go do one of my favorite things, surprise them with a hearty lunch. I would have loved to take them along to experience dining in again. But with this unpredictable pandemic, take-out is the next best option. No matter the size of the feast you’re buying, it fits just right in the cargo area of the GLB. Coming back home with their delicious treats in hand, my son’s smile is all I need to power through the coming work weeks.
A few hours after the delightful cuisine and cakes have all been consumed, it's time to mind the caloric intake and drive to the park to burn the extra stuff off with a quick stroll. With the GLB, it’s easy to get warmed up. Just pop the tailgate and do a little stretch to make sure you’re loose before stepping to it. I need to take care of myself to ensure I’m always there for the people who need me.
For a family man, weekends are sacred, more so now than ever before.
You’ve been working five days a week and even if some of those are done at home, your kids, your wife, still don’t get your 100% undivided attention. Studies even say that working at home increases the chances of you working longer because most of the time, you can’t help but answer an email or finish the presentation.
Make it up to them on weekends and live your family life to the fullest by taking all this vehicle has to offer – 7-seater capacity, a high-end infotainment system with Mercedes MBUX, a navigation system to help you find the best food places in the city, and large cargo space.
From the old to the new normal, made for the modern man, the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLB.
