The Miata Club Philippines (MCP) was formed to provide a venue where like minded individuals can gather and carry uplifting, informing and enduring discussions about the Miata.
MCP was formed in the same year when the Miata was first introduced in the Philippines last 1997. According to MCP, the club was founded by Eddie Salonga along with Joey Pery, Jenny Tan, Erick San Juan and Nikki Tensingco. Since then, more Miata owners came around to join MCP. Today, the club is headed by Tips San Juan, the club's first female President, together with her team of officers Vice President Edwin Cua, Treasurer Tony Lim, Secretary Gino Reyes and PRO Rueben Jarviña.
As of this writing, MCP have around 85 members whose Miatas include the three generations of the vehicle as well as the limited 25th anniversary edition model. MCP normally have regular club meets at the Manila Polo Club every second Sunday of the month. They also have a monthly Friday night out at Grams Diner in Bonifacio Global City.
The club also conducts a traditional annual drive to Baguio as well as organize the Miata Cup Races held at both Batangas Racing Circuit and Clark International Speedway. In addition, MCP has sent delegates to meet with the Miata Club in Singapore, MX5 Miata Club of Malaysia, New York Miata Club, UK MX5 Owners Club, Thailand Roadster Club and the Roadster (MX5) Club of Japan.
MCP added that the club was represented in the 20th anniversary celebration held in Hiroshima, Japan last 2009. To date, MCP considers their participation at last year's global celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Miata at the Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca in California as the club's most notable major event.
When asked about what is unique to MCP, they said that their club has existed since 1997 and they meet regularly in a formal meeting with a set agenda. The club is also recognized by the Manila Sports Car Club. Moreover, MCP maintains close affiliations with other international Miata Clubs and they are also proud to be the official ride for the Binibining Pilipinas candidates at their Parade of Beauties held annually.
Overall, MCP said that their club is all about the fun driving experience with the Miata as well as sharing that passion with fellow enthusiasts from the country and around the globe.
