A total of 24 competitors showed up at the Greenhills Shopping Center Parking Lot for the second round of the 2008 Lateral Drift Championship. Fresh from his series opener win, Alex "X" Perez was poised to bag his second win for the season. However, Bad News stops the X on the spot in the form of Kevin "Bad News" Tayao on wet track.
Qualifying on top in the eliminations was Tayao who scored 28.5 points out of a perfect 30. For the Top 16, it was Paolo Agregado, Ron Bayona, Giovan Bernardino, Jason Choachuy, Benj Cueto, Miguel Esguerra, Naji Kassouf, Dan Javier, Atoy Llave, Joema Montaner, Bryan Revilla, Alex Perez, Audel Sison, Kevin Tayao, Mity Tuazon, and Michelle Yu.
Going into the Top 8 quarterfinal tandem runs in respective order were Perez, Tayao, Javier, Choachuy, Revilla, Sison, Bernardino, and Cueto. They were then arranged into a ladder with Perez vs Cueto, Tayao vs Bernardino, Javier vs Sison, Choachuy vs Revilla. The tandem runs of Tayao vs Bernardino and Choachuy vs Revilla were some of the most exciting matchups as they were mixed by some contact and side-by-side drift action as well.
Emerging into the semifinals were Perez against Revilla, and Tayao against Javier. The skies however felt that it held long enough already and opened up a bit and dropped some rain into the track making it very slippery. Perez, being a more seasoned driver was able to dispatch Revilla without much effort in the rain. A major crash by Javier however, ended all hopes for him as he under-steered the exit of the first corner into the wall.
Tayao would advance to the finals to go head-to-head with Perez. Both drivers put out a great challenge in the wet track equally matching each other for three runs. And on the fourth run, it was decided that Tayao would indeed be bad news for Perez as he takes the win for the second round ended Perez' hopes for a clean sweep of the series.
