The Philippine Touring Car Championship (PTCC) launches its 2006 season at Gerry's Grill at the Promenade, Greenhills shopping arcade with a grand party at 7:00pm on April 28, 2006.
The PTCC 2006, organized by Race Fans Incorporated, amplifies the success of the Philippine National Touring Car Championships 2005 (also organized by Race Fans) which broke records in terms of the number of participating touring car teams which reached 27 - the largest Philippine touring car grid in the history of motor sports.
The PTCC is the only car racing event of its kind sanctioned by the Automotive Association of the Philippines or AAP (formerly Philippine Motoring Association). The AAP is the local representative of the Federacion Internationale L'Automobile (FIA), the licensing body for international car racing events like F-1 and the World Touring Car series. By racing at the PTCC, Filipino drivers are able to get international racing licenses that will enable them to compete in international racing arenas abroad.
This year Race Fans has rounded up 34 touring car teams in its grid which will run at the Subic International Raceway and the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC). The first round of the PTCC races for the 2006 season will be on May 6 & 7 at the BRC.
The touring car race drivers included in the roster for the PTCC 2006 include car racing champions Jody Coseteng, Louis Ramirez, Kookie Ramirez, Philip Alvendia, Renan Morales, Doc Peewee Mendiola, Uly Maninding, and others. Also in the roster is celebrity race car driver Matteo Guidicelli and Monching Gutierrez.
