Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced that the 2016 Outlander PHEV will compete in the Baja Portalegre 500 cross-country rally.
Based on the production model, this Outlander PHEV is fitted with modifications required for a rally car. It is fitted with a roll cage along with a higher ground clearance, longer suspension stroke and larger tires.
In terms of power, the vehicle is equipped with a modified version of the production model's battery in order to generate “greater capacity” and “output.”
The race vehicle will be driven by a two-time Dakar Rally winner Hiroshi Masuoka who will also serve as the team captain.
Mitsubishi adds that the “valuable” data gathered during the event will be integrated into the development of production cars.
The 2015 Baja Portalegre 500 is the tenth round of the FIA Cross Country World Cup and it will be held in the Portalegre municipality in the eastern part of Portugal from October 22 to 24.
