510 HP Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is one mean track machine
Porsche launches track-only 911 GT3 Cup based on upcoming 992 GT3

If there is one Porsche that fans are eagerly waiting for it's the all-new 911 GT3. At the moment, Porsche has yet to reveal details of the new 911 GT3 or even post a teaser. But with Porsche's introduction of the new 911 GT3 Cup car, we now have an idea as to what it will look like...as a track-only racer.

The new 911 GT3 Cup is the race version of Porsche's upcoming 992-generation 911 GT3. It will make its public and race debut at the Porsche Carrera Cup North America race at Sebring International Raceway in March 2021.
Compared to the previous-generation 911 GT3 Cup, Porsche made loads of improvements; but the engine remains the same. The new 911 GT3 Cup continues to use the same 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine as its predecessor. Porsche, however, upgraded the power unit and now produces 510 horsepower over the previous 485 horsepower figures. Purists will also be glad to know that the flat-six sound remains as Porsche kept the same exhaust configuration. Better yet, the German marque has also made it more eco-friendly as it can now run on synthetic fuels.

Aside from power, there are numerous upgrades in the aerodynamics department. For starters, the new GT3 Cup is based on the new 911 Turbo body, making it wider than before. For reference, previous GT3 Cup cars were traditionally based on the naturally-aspirated 911s. With the addition of fender flares, the track-only GT3 can fit 12-inch wide wheels on the front and 13-inch at the rear. There's also a larger adjustable rear wing with a new “swan-neck” design.

Another noticeable upgrade on the can is found inside the cabin GT3 Cup's cabin. The interior is heavily inspired by the 911 GT3 R, the GT3 Cup's larger and more powerful sibling. The new cockpit features a digital display paired with a race-spec steering wheel with numerous buttons that control ABS, traction, and other vehicle parameters.

With the new GT3 Cup launched, it will only be a matter of time before the street-legal 911 GT3 debuts. What will the streetcar look like? Based on how the previous-generation 991 GT3 Cup looked, the upcoming 992-generation 911 GT3 will look very much like the new GT3 Cup minus the huge wing, fender flares, and center-lock wheels.
