Mattias Ekstrom won the fifth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Sweeden after a magnificent performance on-board the Audi S1 Supercar.
With this, Ekstrom managed to clinch his first-ever FIA World RX Championship with the presence of a record-breaking crowd of 34,900.
“If I could write a book and create my dream story I would pretty much write what happened here in Holjes today. This is the best story of my life,” said Ekstrom after winning the fifth round of the FIA World RX Championship.
Ford Olsbergs MSE’s Andreas Bakkerud drove his Fiesta Supercar into second while PSRX’s Petter Solberg finished in third.
“That was an unbelievable race – absolutely unbelievable. I was pushing so hard in that race, probably to my limit. On lap three I got a puncture but then I saw that Petter and Sebastian had punctures too. So I started to really push at that point,” said Bakkerud.
“I tried everything I could in that race, but I had a knock from Andreas in the final lap and I couldn’t get ahead,” explained Solberg.
Coming in at fourth was Bakkerud’s teammate, Reinis Nitiss and rounding up the top five finishers is Monster Energy’s Liam Doran with his Citroen DS3 Supercar.
After the fifth round of the 2014 FIA World RX Championship, Reinis Nitiss maintains his lead in driver points with 112. He is followed by Petter Solberg and Andreas Bakkerud with 103 and 90 points respectively.
On the other hand, Ford Olsbergs MSE still leads the team points with 211 while Volkswagen Marklund and Team Peugeot-Hansen has 152 and 123. Coming in at fourth is PSRX with 117 points and Monster Energy World RX Team with 45. Albatec Racing is currently at the sixth and last place with 14 points.
