Toyota Motor Philippine’s (TMP) Vios Cup is one of the events that gearheads anticipate yearly, with numerous racing teams and drivers joining the series. Following last year's launch of the new Vios, TMP also changed the format of their racing series by introducing the Vios Racing Festival – a two-part series which includes the new Vios Autocross Challenge and the Vios Circuit Championship.
The Vios Autocross Challenge was held last Sunday, April 28 and to the surprise of many, a celebrity driver managed to set the fastest time of the day, beating out seasoned racers who also joined the event. That driver is none other than Vios Cup veteran Troy Montero, who set a 1:10.63 lap during his final race of the day, making him the champion of the Celebrity Class. Following behind Montero was previous Vios Cup celebrity champion Fabio Ide with a 1:14.10 lap. Gretchen Ho closes out the top 3 for the celebrity class with a 1:14.77 lap.
The Car Club Class had the most drivers and also some of the most exciting battles of the day. Starting out with over 30 members including the five online winners, only four remained at the end. This class saw Vios club members show their best skills using their personal vehicles. However, during the final stint, the final four drivers switched to the all-new Vios race car to make it an even playing field.
Emerging as the champion of the Car Club Class is 14-year old Carlos Inigo Anton, who set a 1:11.13 time, the second fastest lap of the day. Michael Scott Carbonel and Daryl Brady finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, with a time of 1:12.23 and 1:12.47.
In the Media Class, AutoIndustriya.com’s very own Jose Altoveros emerged as the champion with a lap of 1:12.63 during his final stint. That was enough to give him a comfortable lead ahead of Jerald Valdez from GoFlatOut who set a 1:15.00, finishing in 2nd. Eggay Quesada from AutocarPH rounds up the top 3 of the Media Class with a 1:17.34 lap.
Reph Bangsil finished first in the Influencers Class with a time of 1:17.06. Following behind him is Karl Gabriel and Klea Pineda in 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
Catch part two of the Vios Racing Festival at the Clark International Speedway in June later this year.
