Honda has released the first official image of the 2014 Civic WTCC race car at its annual motorsport press conference in Tokyo. The Japanese automaker outlined its participation for the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship which involves fielding two works cars under the Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team by JAS Motorsport, and another two to Zengö Motorsport and Proteam Racing getting one car each. 

Driving for the works team will be Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro, while Norbert Michelisz will drive for Zengö Motorsport, and Mehdi Bennani for Proteam Racing.

"We achieved four victories and captured the Manufacturers' title in 2103 that was our first year of full-participation in WTCC. In the upcoming season we will strive to win the double title for Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ fielding a total of four cars run by three teams," said Takanou Ito, Honda Motor Co. Ltd, president and CEO.

The 2014 Honda Civic WTCC features a sleeker aero package, wheel arch extensions, 18-inch wheels and extended rear spoiler as outlined in the latest technical regulations of the FIA WTCC. Under the hood will be a new and lighter HR-412E engine.

The Honda WTCC development team conducted its first test session at Motorland Aragón in Spain.  The 2014 FIA WTCC season begins on April 12-13 at Circuit Moulay El Hassan in Morocco.
