Honda to open dedicated F1 museum at Suzuka

It’s not just Formula One action that’s coming around at Suzuka this April. For fans of the sport, they can also check out historic Formula One racing machines with Honda engines in the same venue.

Honda has announced they are opening the Honda Racing Gallery at the same race weekend of this year’s Formula One Japanese Grand Prix.

As part of Honda’s 60th anniversary in F1, the Honda Racing Gallery will feature past machines, engines, and hybrid power units that have competed in actual Formula One races.

The center of the main hall puts the spotlight on the Honda RA272 from 1965 – the F1 car that delivered Honda’s first victory in Formula One, and beside it is the Red Bull Racing Honda RB16B – Max Verstappen’s F1 car that gave his first world title.

Meanwhile, other F1 cars such as the Senna-Prost era McLaren-Hondas, Jenson Button’s Honda RA106, as well as the AlphaTauri Honda AT01 are also present at the main hall, including exhibits of Honda engines from the 80s, the V8 era, and the championship-winning RA612H from 2021.

For the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, there will be a special exhibit area at the basement floor. The area features Japanese drivers and their F1 machines powered by Honda. Those include Satoru Nakajima’s Lotus 100T, Takuma Sato’s Super Aguri SA07, and Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri AT02. Furthermore, Honda also plans to exhibit machines from Super GT, Super Formula, and the Suzuka 8 Hours Road Race in this floor.

The Japanese Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from April 4 to 7, 2024. The Honda Racing Gallery will open on April 5, which will coincide with the free practice sessions of Formula One.
