The 1,600 acre raceway located near Sonoma, California have been known as Infineon Raceway for the past 10 years until last June 1, 2012, when it temporarily changed its name to Sonoma.
Infineon Technologies, a German semiconductor manufacturer have been paying $3.5 million annually to be able to brand the raceway with their name. Its 10 year contract with the raceway ended last month hence the change of names starting the month of June. Speedway Motorsports Inc., the owner of the track, decided to name it Sonoma temporarily until they can think of a better name(or until someone decides to brand the race track).
Along with the temporary name change is the change in its website address and can now be found at www.racesonoma.com.
