Filipino-Swiss driver Marlon Stockinger, racing for Status Grand Prix in the 2012 GP3 Series took his maiden win in grand style, winning the race at the Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo.
The 21 year old Filipino-born racer, the son of Swiss businessman Tom Stockinger and Filipina Egin San Pedro, won various titles in the several karting karting championships before moving up to formula cars with Formula BMW and Formula Renault. Stockinger moved up to the GP3 series in 2011 for Team Atech GP, and for 2012 is racing for Status Grand Prix.
This weekend's Formula One Monaco Grand Prix has a pair of support races by GP3, with Round 1 on May 25 going to Finnish driver Aaro Vainio, and Round 2 going to Marlon Stockinger. Stockinger also took the fastest lap.
2012 is a strong season for the young driver, starting off with a 2nd place finish in the Round 1 GP3 race in Spain and an 8th at Round 1 of Monaco. With his maiden GP3 win, Stockinger moves up in the standings to 3rd overall with 39 points, behind Aaro Vainio at 54 points and Mitch Evans at 43 points.
