McLaren brings back chrome for 2023 British Grand Prix
McLaren reveals special race livery for 2023 Formula 1 British Grand Prix

The 2023 Formula 1 British Grand Prix is happening this weekend, and one of the “home” teams will be sporting a throwback theme.

McLaren has revealed its special race livery for Silverstone as part of its ongoing 60th-anniversary celebration – they are bringing back the chrome look that featured on its F1 cars from 2006 to 2014. That period for McLaren brought Lewis Hamilton the first of his seven world titles in 2008.

It's not quite a full-on throwback livery for McLaren, as they still retained some Papaya Orange elements instead of having red from the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes days. The special livery is the second for this season, as McLaren also raced with a slightly different theme at the Monaco Grand Prix to commemorate its triple crown achievement.
They created the livery together with team partner Google. Apparently, the Chrome web browser was launched in the same year Hamilton clinched his maiden world title.

Along with the special livery for the MCL60, drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will also be wearing special helmets and race suit designs to go along with bespoke racing boots.
“It’s no secret that racing fans love McLaren’s classic chrome livery. Google Chrome wanted to bring back elements of this iconic livery to celebrate our team’s history at the British Grand Prix, and we’re excited to be able to give our fans what they want. I’m sure this livery will bring back great memories for many of our fans, and I can’t wait to see it out on track at our home race,” said Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing.
