Get ready to see Nissan compete at the 2018 – 2019 seasons of Formula E. After announcing their plans to join the series at this year's Geneva International Motor Show, Nissan has officially kicked off the countdown when they join Season 5 of Formula E this December.
To highlight this momentous event, Nissan showed their upcoming race car in the metal alongside the all-new Leaf in Brooklyn, New York. Draped in signature Nissan and Nismo hues, the all-electric car combines cutting edge racing technology with the company's Intelligent Mobility features.
“Season 5 for Nissan has now officially begun. Our goal is to be as best prepared as we can be and we've been laying the groundwork for quite some time. As part of our preparations for our Season 5 debut, I've been on site at each race this season to take a close look at the championship and our competitors,” said Michael Carcamo, Global Motorsport Director at Nissan.
Exact details about the race car remain under wraps but what we do know is that it uses a new type of battery that allows the car to compete throughout the entire race. This new system does away of having to switch to another car which we've become accustomed to in Formula E.
“We've certainly observed that energy management is the key to success in this championship. For Nissan, the Formula E championship is a high-speed laboratory. We're going to use our road car EV experience on the track, but we'll also take what we learn trackside and use that for the road cars of tomorrow,” added Carcamo.
Nissan will use the Formula E championship to showcase the company's Intelligent Mobility strategy which is their take on how cars should be driven, powered and integrated to everyday life. Nissan is already busy testing the Gen2 Formula E car to learn as much as they can in order to have a fully-developed powertrain for Season 5.
Round 1 of the 2018 – 2019 season of Formula E will kick off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
