Report: Acura to enter NSX in 2017 motorsports season
Acura has yet to decide if NSX will compete in GTE or GT3 class racing

Acura, Honda's luxury car division in North America, has announced that they are analyzing the prospects of the NSX as a GTE or GT3 race car.
Steve Eriksen, Honda Performance Development (HPD) vice president and CEO told Sportscar365 that the company targets the 2017 motorsports season as it competition debut. Eriksen also said that a final decision has yet to be made whether it will be a GT3- or GTE-spec race car.
Acura has been competing in the GT3 class with its compact executive sedan, the TLX GT. The TLX GT race car currently competing in the Pirelli World Challenge is equipped with a direct-injected 3.5L V-6 and puts it power down with all-wheel drive. Acura also has a long motorsport history in the US starting with the Integra.
If the NSX competes in GT3 class racing, the Acura sports car may replace the compact executive sedan as its race car for its class. Eriksen says the NSX will likely lose its hybrid setup since he believes motorsport is not ready just yet to fully embrace hybrids.
Acura says a final decision as to which category the NSX will compete in will be made in the coming weeks.
